David Whitwell is a countertenor alongside his artistic practice on the trombone. He performed his Carnegie Hall solo debut on the premiere of the Girolamo Deraco 8 Songs for a Drag Queen in 2017. Additionally, he has integrated countertenor voice into his music making in performances throughout Germany, Italy, and the US, as soloist with the Dedalo Ensemble in Brescia, Italy, in a solo faculty performance at Colombus State University, and recently in the Hallenbad in Wolfsburg, Germany. He recently received praise for his “Masterful vocal abilities” (Davide Toschi in operaclick.it) on a solo opera triptych written for his specific voice and instrument combonation on the Puccini Chamber Opera Festival in Lucca, Italy, performing works by Deraco, James Ogburn and Diego Sanchez Hasse, and Lucca in Diretta said of his Carnegie Hall solo debut “Whitwell himself sang and played changing roles in an instant, highlighting the high performance value and versatility of this refined musician. It is no coincidence that at the end of the concert the audience that crowded the hall stood up, decreeing a standing ovation at the address of this great American artist “

David studies with NYC Bass Baritone Daniel Klein, legendary countertenor Derek Lee Ragin, and opera coach Matthew Lobaugh.
